Red Velvet Cake 😋

I’ve always been a foodie, a really big one. I love trying different cuisines and dishes. But making dishes and desserts myself cheers me even more.

Recently, I tried making red velvet cake, and it came out beautifully. The ‘velvet’ in red velvet cake, I noticed, was because of its smooth texture. The taste is a mixture of vanilla and chocolate. The dish is incredibly moreish.

This is the recipe of the cake I made. Try it out!

 Ingredients

~      Unsalted butter – 1/3 cup

~      Castor sugar – 1 cup

~      2 small eggs

~      Cooking oil – 1/4 cup

~      Unsweetened cocoa – 3/4 tablespoon

~      Red food colouring – 2 tablespoon

~      Pure vanilla – 1.5 teaspoon

~      White/malt vinegar – 3/4 tablespoon

~      All-purpose flour – 2 cups

~      Baking soda – 3/4 teaspoon

~      Salt (preferably sea salt) – 3/4 teaspoon

~      Buttermilk – 1 cup

BUTTERMILK RECIPE

Ingredients

1 tablespoon lemon/vinegar

1 cup milk

Mix the lemon/vinegar and milk and leave it for 5 minutes.

Procedure

Heat oven to 175 degree celcius.

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and combine. Set aside.

Mix oil, cocoa, vanilla essence and red food colouring until smooth.

Mix coloured mixture and creamed sugar. Add the vinegar. (It would be better if the mixture is frothy)

Take a separate bowl and mix flour, salt and baking soda.

Add half of the buttermilk and wet ingredients. Repeat with the other half.

The final mixture would have a beautiful and mesmerising pink colour.

Grease an 18 inch pan with vegetable oil and dust with cocoa powder (1/2 teaspoon)

Put the final mixture in the pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.

CHEESE FROSTING (optional)

Ingredients

~      200g cream cheese

~      Unsalted butter – 1/4 cup

~      Vanilla essence – 1 teaspoon

~      Icing (granulated) sugar – 1 cup

Mix cream cheese, butter and vanilla essence. Now, add sugar and combine.

Make sure to add all ingredients in the same order as written above. The cheese frosting should taste sweet as well as sour. If it doesn’t taste sour, add ½ teaspoon of lemon. The colour should be a beautiful creamy one.

When put on the cake, it would have a magnificent contrast of red and white.

SINGLE LAYERED CAKE

If you want your cake to be single layered, just add all the mixture in a single pan and bake it. After it’s made, add the cheese frosting on all sides.

DOUBLE LAYERED CAKE

If you want to make a double layered cake and surprise someone, you can divide the mixture in two separate pans of the same size and bake them. After it is made, put the cheese frosting over one cake and put the other one on top of it. Then again, cover it with cheese frosting.

It would be preferred not to make a single cake and cut it from the middle.

DECORATION

You could use sprinklers and jellies, but it would be better to use the cake itself. Scrape out the top of the cake, and crumble it. After decorating with cheese frosting, sprinkle the crumbled pieces over the cake.

Enjoy!!!
